Jeremiah means “whom The LORD has appointed”.

Purpose = the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.

Before Jeremiah had grown to full stature and carried out great things, He had been chosen by YHWH, The LORD. It was nothing HE had done but he was appointed to do it BEFORE he was even formed.
