Monday was such a gorgeous day; the sky was blue and cloudless, the sun shone with brilliance and the weather was warm with a cool breeze. As I stared out the window, I let out the breath from my lungs and thought to myself ‘today is a beautiful day…’
As I got myself together, in preparation to meet my other half, my daughter was in her room with her family, tidying up. They began to play some music, which added to the beauty of the day. There were some tracks that made me reminisce about my childhood. I started to visualise days that appeared to have the same blue sky and sunshine, the same joy that I was feeling that day. It almost brought a tear to my eye, because there was a time I thought back to my childhood and it wasn’t with joy but sadness. I heard my grandchildren shouting, screaming and laughing, and my grandson running around in the little space there was, and felt happy with where I was at that present time. I felt grounded. Life isn’t exactly as I want it to be, but it is good.
As I reminisced my daughter came in with a few photos she had come across whilst clearing up, and I shared with her some of the memories I was having. I told her that she needs to continually try to create moments for her little family, that will ensure they can look back with a smile and feel a sense of joy in their hearts. She already does that, because if the weather is good enough, she’ll jump in the car and drive to the beach or anywhere.
It is important to have moments of remembrance in life, as they can provide hope that it is possible to have better days.
11 I will [solemnly] remember the deeds of the LORD;
Yes, I will [wholeheartedly] remember Your wonders of old.12 I will meditate on all Your works
And thoughtfully consider all Your [great and wondrous] deeds.Psalm 77:11-12 (AMP)
In moments of distress your vision can be clouded to believe that your pain and sadness will never end or when you hear of looming destruction, hope can be diminished. But the words of the Lord can revive that hope, because no matter what the situation, the Holy Bible tells us of the comfort that is there for us all. He had come so that we can have life and life more abundantly
The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].
John 10:10 (AMP)
Reminiscing differs from remembering. When you remember, you just recall. To reminisce is more of a lingering on the past. We must be sure not to linger too much in the past, as we can cause ourselves to stop and not move forward. That is with regards to life inside and outside of Christ. Let us aim to have a life only inside of Christ, because we cannot go wrong.
Yeshua/Jesus, the Example
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of [a]witnesses [who by faith have testified to the truth of God’s absolute faithfulness], stripping off every unnecessary weight and the sin which so easily and cleverly entangles us, let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us,
2 [looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Yeshua/Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity], who for the joy [of accomplishing the goal] set before Him endured the cross, [b]disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God [revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work].
Hebrews 12:1 (AMP)
Footnotes
[a] Hebrews 12:1 i.e. the people commended for their faith in ch 11. See 11:2, 39.
[b] Hebrews 12:2 Sometimes the public shame of the cross is overlooked when one thinks of the pain and agony inflicted by it, but in the Roman Empire crucifixion was a shameful and disgraceful way to die, a form of capital punishment from which Roman citizens were exempt; and in Roman comedy it was used in a curse: “Go to a bad cross!”
Stay blessed. Remain focused. Be diligent. Be unapologetically you.
